I called San Antonio Plumbing at 8 am on Thursday 6.20.24 for a potential recurring leak. I had previously been dealing with a main water line issue that had been repaired by another company. The dispatcher said they could have someone out within an hour and a half. Johnny and Israel from San Antonio Plumbing showed up about 30 minutes later. They did a great job throughly checking both the internal and external water system.Turns out we didn’t have a leak after all but some other issues we need to look at (RO system, possible faulty meter, etc.) I truly appreciate the prompt service, free estimate, and honest assessment! I will most definitely call San Antonio Plumbing back for any plumbing related issues!!!

Frequently Ask Question

Are water softeners worth it in San Antonio, Texas?

Yes, water softeners are definitely worth it in San Antonio, Texas. The region is known for its hard water, which contains high levels of minerals like calcium and magnesium. These minerals can cause scale buildup in pipes and appliances, reduce the efficiency of water heaters, and lead to dry skin and hair. By installing a water softener, you can:

  1. Extend Appliance Lifespan: Reduce scale buildup in appliances like dishwashers, washing machines, and water heaters, thereby extending their lifespan.
  2. Improve Water Efficiency: Enhance the efficiency of water-using appliances, potentially lowering energy bills.
  3. Enhance Soap Performance: Improve the effectiveness of soaps and detergents, resulting in cleaner clothes and dishes.
  4. Increase Comfort: Prevent dry skin and hair, leading to a more comfortable daily experience.
Yes, water softeners are allowed in San Antonio. However, some local municipalities may have specific regulations or guidelines regarding the installation and discharge of water softeners. It’s important to check with local authorities or a professional plumber to ensure compliance with any local codes.

A well-maintained water softener typically lasts between 10 to 15 years. The lifespan can vary based on factors such as:

  1. Quality of the Unit: Higher quality units often have a longer lifespan.
  2. Maintenance: Regular maintenance, including cleaning and replacing the resin bed, can extend the life of the unit.
  3. Water Hardness: Areas with extremely hard water may cause the system to work harder, potentially reducing its lifespan.

Yes, water softeners are generally good for plumbing. They help:

  1. Reduce Scale Buildup: By removing calcium and magnesium, water softeners prevent scale buildup in pipes, fixtures, and appliances.
  2. Prolong Pipe Lifespan: Decrease the likelihood of corrosion and blockages, thereby extending the lifespan of plumbing systems.
  3. Improve Water Flow: Maintain better water flow and pressure by preventing clogs caused by mineral deposits.

While soft water has many benefits, there are a few disadvantages to consider:

  1. Sodium Content: Water softeners that use salt can increase the sodium content in the water, which may be a concern for people on low-sodium diets.
  2. Environmental Impact: The discharge from salt-based water softeners can contribute to environmental pollution and may not be permitted in some areas without proper treatment.
  3. Initial Cost: The initial cost of purchasing and installing a water softener can be high.
  4. Maintenance: Regular maintenance is required to ensure the system functions properly, including refilling salt and occasionally servicing the unit.
  5. Taste and Feel: Some people may notice a change in the taste of their water or feel that soft water does not rinse off soap as effectively.
